Bolt-on Bed Rails
A bolt-on frame has bolt-on brackets on each end for attaching the headboard and footboard. A bolt-on rail has an arrangement of holes through which bolts can be secured to the headboard and footboard. These bed rails are available in twin, full, queen, king, and adjustable sizes and can be made of either wood or metal.
Care should be taken to fasten the bolts securely so the headboard and the sleigh bed mattress are firmly in place.
Wood Bed Rails
Wood bed rails can feature the hook-on or bolt-on styles. Some wood bed rails are for platform beds, which don't require box springs. They have sturdy slats that support the mattress.
Metal Bed Rails
Like wood rails, metal bed rails come in hook-on or bolt-on styles. A metal bed rail generally requires a box spring along with a mattress.
